Snippet Dec 31

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).

In this group you’ll find anything from romance and historical fiction to mystery and YA. The common thread is that every story’s main character identifies as LGBTQ+. The snippets could range from zero flames to full-on sexytimes, anything goes content-wise. The only rule is snippets will be 6 sentences long–one for each color in the Pride flag.

I would invite everyone to please come check out the Rainbow Snippets group, click on a link, read and comment on the writing available and get involved yourselves in this awesome exercise. The link to the group can be found HERE.  Today's snippet is from the same WIP as last weeks, a little bit of sexy times for the guys.

“Not lost, just…we’re dating right?”

“I think so. I know we never made it official or anything but that’s how I see us.”

That was all the answer Danny needed. He closed the distance between them and slid his arms around Jax’s neck, his fingers threading through jax’s hair as he kissed and nipped at his collarbone.

“Then lay on the bed so I can find all of those piercings I keep hearing so much about.”

Chuckling, Jax did as he was told, sprawling on his back, hair spilling out around him on the pillow like a halo, he gripped the headboard, and licked his tongue out at Danny, exposing the metal twisted around the tip of his tongue.

“Oh really,” Danny muttered, crawling onto the bed beside him. “I think maybe I’ll count that one last.”

“At this point, I’m sure he’ll be willing to try anything and if he isn’t, then he deserves a good smack.”

“I don’t think he’d thank me for that nor would I want to find out what would happen when he felt better,” Danny said.

Her laugh was almost musical as she waved him off. “Don’t let the exterior or the sarcasm fool you, he’s a big teddy bear. It takes a lot to get him riled up.”

“I’ve seen him pissed,” Danny remarked, shuddering at the memory. “I wouldn’t want to see that again.”

“I heard about that shit with you’re ex, you didn’t need that scumbag hon, and if he ever comes back again, you just let jax know and I guarantee he’ll make sure he stops coming around.”

“I ummm, thanks,” Danny stammered. “Does umm, does he get migraines a lot? Maybe I should take him to the ER, they have shots to help.”

“I know, I’ve had to drag him there once and it wasn’t even as bad as this one, but he hates hospitals, and all trying to take him will do is cause an argument, get him frustrated, make him yell and make him puke. I’d rather not go the dramatic route if we can help it.”

“That’s what a production is all about,” Danny replied, a small smile crossing his face. “It’s not a division of actors and tech crew, it’s everyone trying to work together to make a performance happen.”

“That’s cool. What you guys do here is pretty awesome. Never would have imagined so much went into it.”

“What we do here.”

“Huh?”

“You said, ‘you guys,’ but you forgot to include yourself,” Danny pointed out.

“Some screws and bolts aren’t the same as what goes on out there.”

“Don’t do that.”

Jax frowned and studied Danny, confused by the sudden look of fury on his face. “Do what?”

“Undervalue what you’ve done to help.” Danny snapped. “And don’t think none of us have noticed the way you never seem to take a break, not for a snack, not for lunch, you just guzzle water and that protein stuff you carry with you.”

Today's Snippet is from my NaNo project ... and all shall fade to black. Finished and with betas now, though I would love to have one more. In this scene, jax is talking to his best friend, from back in Seattle, someone he had also had a crush on for years, and never told. Since the move, he's been avoiding contact until this phone call.

“Just, we’re talking now, so tell me how things have been going.”

“Ahh, evasion, that was always your favorite tactic. Very well then, the shop is fine, a few of your regulars were quite disappointed to learn that you no longer worked here. I’ve done three sessions with Dominick on that back piece he came to consult about right before you left, and in case your wondering, yes, he choose to go with the blue dragons and the ice castle behind it. If you’d like we can send you pictures when it is done, now, what is going on and why haven’t you called me!”

Jax swallowed hard as the thinly veiled anger that had been in his friends voice the entire time he was speaking cracked and leaked into something more menacing.

“It’s complicated.”

“Uncomplicate it, now Jax, if you think I’m not serious when I say I will be on the next plane out there and have Max pick me up from their airport so I’m there at your place waiting tonight when you get home, then you are mistaken. You are my best friend, the only brother I’ll ever have, I will not accept that you left here with no intention of keeping in contact with me.”
