Rainbow Snippet December 2nd

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).

In this group you’ll find anything from romance and historical fiction to mystery and YA. The common thread is that every story’s main character identifies as LGBTQ+. The snippets could range from zero flames to full-on sexytimes, anything goes content-wise. The only rule is snippets will be 6 sentences long–one for each color in the Pride flag.

I would invite everyone to please come check out the Rainbow Snippets group, click on a link, read and comment on the writing available and get involved yourselves in this awesome exercise. The link to the group can be found HERE

This week I've got a snippet from my newly started short story which, at this point, doesn't has a name, but features the town's head librarian and the restless wanderer he used to be friends with when they were kids.

“So how long are you back for? I read about your mom. I’m sorry.”
“Thanks. As for how long I’m staying, it looks like it might be indefinitely. I sort of inherited my folks place so I’ve been cleaning it out, deciding what stays and what goes. Realized I was gonna be bored and figured I might as well pick up some books and food on my way back.”
“Sounds like an exciting evening.”
“Now that will depend on the book, maybe you can recommend something.”
“Well, that depends. You still read fantasy and horror?”
“Mostly just fantasy these days, and before you ask, yes, I’ll still read just about anything with a dragon.”
Mace’s chuckle was low, throaty and warm, and Derrick found himself wondering if he remembered the kiss they’d shared in a dark corner of this very library. Almost as if it had a mind of his own, his gaze was drawn to the corner, just beyond the history section. It was only when Mace cleared his throat that his gaze was drawn back to him.
